With Microsoft releasing Windows 10 today worldwide, there has been lots of buzzing going on internet about this new OS. Though the technical preview had been released months ago, but final build is something which we can actually trust for security/bug free.
However, I didn’t see any way to upgrade my Windows PC to Windows 10. If you’re one of them, then follow these methods.
Note: It is NOT MANDATORY to have a genuine windows license to upgrade to windows 10. Microsoft, I don’t know, is even allowing pirated copies (I mean activated ones, pirated) for upgrading to 10.

Requirements:

Before you even follow up with this article, check if your system is actually eligible for a free upgrade:
  1. You should NOT HAVE Windows 8. Yep! Microsoft clearly mentionshere that only users of Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 are eligible for free upgrade.
However, you can upgrade from Windows 8 to Windows 8.1 (free) and then to Windows 10 (free)
  2. You should have latest windows updates installed.
  3. You should have windows updates ENABLED.
That’s pretty much it. If none of the above apply on you, and you still can’t see that little nasty window in your toolbar below which’d allow you to upgrade, then follow on!
Check If It Is Really CompatibleMicrosoft themselves have a test you can perform to check if you are compatible with 10 upgrade.
  • Open notepad.
  • Paste the following code in that:
  • Save this file on your desktop as check.cmd
  • Now hold shift and right click.
  • Select “Launch Command Prompt Here”
  • Type check.cmd and hit enter.
  • If it immediately pops up error and quits, bad luck.
  • Let it run for 10-15 minutes. When done, the icon would automatically pop up!
  • Here’s how it’d look:

If things still don’t work, don’t worry, we’ve plan B.
  • Go to start.
  • Type cmd. Right click on it and select “Run as administrator”
  • Now paste the following code in it:  wuauclt.exe /updatenow
  • Close cmd. Now go to control panel.
  • If all went good, you should see something like this:

 Still Not Working?
Holy moly! Nevermind! There’s a manual override to all this. Directly download Windows 10 from Microsoft’s website and install it yourself like a geek!
