While just a few days ago we reported on the latest iPhone rumors concerning the 6c, it looks like Apple’s upcoming four-inch smartphone will actually be called the iPhone 5e.
Again the news comes from Chinese site MyDrivers, but this time the outlet says the device will feature a stripped-down A8 processor, 1GB of RAM, the option of 16 or 64 gigabytes, and will come equipped with Apple Pay. The “e” apparently stands for “enhanced” and if the latest report is to be believed, then the 5e is looking to be a beefed-up iPod touch, aimed at developing markets, with a presumably low price point to match.
Although Apple is doing their best to get their product in the emerging markets of China and India, it seems like a step back to roll out yet another fifth-generation iPhone, leaving us to question the legitimacy of the latest rumors.
If the rumors turn out to be true, however, we’ll be looking at a March release with a price of around $500.
