Twitter Joins Fight Against Daesh
Twitter recently made a blog post on February 5th condemning extremists’ usage its the social networking site to further their cause.
Ramping up their efforts to block terrorist accounts, Twitter has “increased the size of the teams that review reports.” Outside of the company’s social networks, Twitter has said that it will  “cooperate with law enforcement entities when appropriate” and “partner with organizations working to counter extremist content online.” Since the middle of 2015, over 125,000 accounts have been shut down for promoting or threatening terrorist actions.
Still, not all is well yet; Twitter has stated that there is no “magic algorithm” for determining which account is a terrorist account, and that the people working to block such accounts will be “forced to make challenging judgment calls based on very limited information and guidance” as a result.
Another concern is that online terror activity will spill over to other online forums, though Twitter hopes that other tech companies will follow in its footsteps in blocking terrorist activity. U.S. government officials have met with major tech companies in Silicon Valley last month to discuss how to reduce online terror recruitment.
