Music Director: GV Prakash

GV Prakash's Pencil released in theatres today. The movie's trailer created a lot of curiosity amongst the viewers. Going by the posters, one would expect the movie to be a college love story. However when you watch the movie, it will surely surprise you as the story is a murder mystery. Co-starring Sri Divya in the female lead, the movie is directed by Mani Nagaraj. Let's see if the movie lives upto the expectations of the people.

Story:

Shiva (GV Prakash), a 12th standard student is in love with his classmate Maya (Sri Divya). Nithin (Shariq Hassan), a bigwig's son enters the school and is hated by the teachers and students because of his behaviour. One day, Nithin is found murdered in the school premises by Shiva and Maya. The duo then decide to know the reason behind this mysterious murder. Will Shiva and Maaya find the culprit and succeed in resolving the mystery forms the crux of the story.

Positive Points:

Screenplay and direction of the movie deserve a bow. The suspense behind the murder mystery is maintained till the end. GV Prakash fits into the role of Shiva perfectly and has delivered his best in this department as well. Sri Divya on the other hand hogged the limelight and carried the role of Maya with ease. Shariq Hassan is a star in the making. When a villain in the movie is hated by the audience, it is a proof that he has delivered his best. Same is the case with Shariq Hassan.

Minus Points:

Being a murder mystery, the makers could have opted to included a song or two. Too many songs interupted the narrative flow.

Verdict:

On the whole, Pencil is yet another gripping murder mystery with a novel concept. It is a must watch in theatres.

Rating: 3/5
